poll :: best female perf.

Honorary Mention: Helen Winskill.
Any other year, Helen might have won this one. Never out the British Team and a final position of 14th in the World Cup, helped along of course by her fantastic bronze medal scored on the streets of Italy.

Winner:
Last year she moved back to Britain from the orienteering Mecca of Halden in Norway, and her training changed accordingly in a bid to give her the crucial edge to move from the podium to a medal. She maybe didn’t get the fairytale medal on home terrain that some might have dreamt of, but her strong set of runs at the first round of World Cups set her up well for the season to come, and when it came the medal would have been no less sweet for it. Medal number one was a bronze, at the World Games in Duisburg just weeks before the World Champs in Japan, where she fought hard in the Sprint Race to take medal number two, and her first World Championship Medal, in one of her last ever Elite races.

Orienteer of the year for 2005, if not the 5 before as well, is Heather Monro.
