ukcup :: oxford cancelled?

Unconfirmed rumours suggest that the long-awaited Oxford Street-race has been postponed yet again.

The race, due to take place on 21st May after the British Sprint Champs, was originally scheduled to run as a prologue to the Surrey World-Cup. However when it was shortened there was no space in the timetable for the street race and it was postponed to become part of the 2006 UK Cup.

Now it seems that the 2006 version has again been postponed, this time due to fears over the security of the colleges the course would visit. College heads fear that relaxing the security to allow orienteers to run through would leave them open to attack by animal rights extremists.

It's hoped to hold a second days racing in the Milton Keynes area instead.
