October Odyssey

This years October Odyssey was held last weekend in the North East. The event retained its traditional double regional event style with Day 1 being held at Dukes House Wood and Day 2 held on Simonside home of the 2004 British Championships. For a good use of cost effectiveness the Organisers used the maps form the cancelled Alternative British Relay Championships event. Each course had a shorter race on the Saturday with a longer event planned for the Sunday.

In the M21L event CLOK old boy Duncan Archer missed his HH club champs to do battle with locally based Ed Nash of KNOBOC. Duncan eventually triumphed over Ed with Duncan beating Ed by 3.5 mins on Day 1 and Ed only gaining a slight 30 secs advantage over Duncan on Day 2. John Noblett of WCOC (M40) was overall third half an hour behind Ed Nash.

In the W21L Pippa Whitehouse continued her good form by winning overall from Karen Heppenstall of CLOK. Pippa managed to beat Karen by a little over three minutes on day 1 and just less than two minutes on day 2. Third place went to Lindsay McMillan of HOC.

Other notable class winners included Ben Stevens of Aire winning the JM5L from Jack Wood also of Aire. In JW5L Bens sister Victoria beat Sarah Browne of LOC by three minutes, Sarah Price taking third place. In JW4 there was a top three for EBOR Alice Leake, Victoria Myers and Harriet Andrews. Michael Billinghurst took the M40L title by just over 30 minutes and in the W60L Beryl Blackhall took the title by an impressive 38 minutes.
