Carse - flat & fast moraine area

Initial details for the final round of the UK Cup, along with the World Championship selection races, have now been announced.

The races will take place across Scotland from Friday 29 June to Sunday 1 July, at Stirling University (Sprint) near Stirling and Creag Leach (Classic) and Carse (Middle) which are both near Inverness.

Friday 29th June Sprint race, Stirling University Campus and adjacent woodland
Courses: Mens Open (15minute winning time)
Womens Open (15minute winning time)
Starts: 1700 1830, generally 1 minute start interval
Map: updated May 2007 to ISSOM specification, scale tbc
Planner: Dave Peel (SYO)
Controller: Fraser Purves (FVO)
Terrain: A mix of urban, park and traditional orienteering terrain

Terrain embargo:
Anyone who wishes to enter the sprint race but feels that they have reason to break the terrain embargo (e.g. they attend Stirling University) must contact Derek Allison (derek@britishorienteering.org.uk) for a decision prior to 18th June.
Please note that that anyone who wishes to compete may not participate in the Dumyat Hill Race on the 9th of May,

Scottish O League race 30th Sept 2007:
The area used for the sprint race on the Friday overlaps with the competition area for the FVO Scottish O League Regional event on 30 September. FVO and the SOA Competitions Convenor have agreed that people taking part in the sprint race will still be eligible to enter the FVO event.

Saturday 30th June Long Race, Creag Leach, near Inverness
Courses: Mens Open (90minute winning time)
Womens Open (70minute winning time)
In addition to the two UK Cup/Selection Race courses, there will also be a
Green course available for pre-entry.
Starts: from 11am, generally 3 minute start interval
Map: updated May 2007, scale 1:15,000

Terrain: Plantation forest with a good track/path network, generally good visibility and running. Large hillside & plateau with contour and some rock detail

Sunday 1st July Middle Race, Carse, near Nairn
Courses: Mens Open (35minute winning time)
Womens Open (35minute winning time)
Starts: from 10am, generally 3 minute start interval
Map: updated May 2007, scale 1:10,000
Planner: Dave Peel (SYO)
Controller: Steve Smirthwaite (MOR)
Terrain: Plantation forest with good track path network, generally good visibility and running. Flat area with moraine contour detail. Small areas of open heath with gorse scrub.
