England triumph at Interland

England took overall victory, along with eight class victories, at Interland at Weerterbergen in the south of Holland this weekend. Interland takes place on a yearly basis and comprises of representatives from England, two Belgian teams (Flemish and French speaking), the Dutch and a NW Germany team with teams made up of competitors from across the age groups M/W14 to M/W60. With England sending a full team of 42 runners they're strength was always likely to pay off.

In the men's elite class Nick Barrable was victorious for England, 1:50 clear of Axel Fischer of Germany with Mike Sprot a further 5 seconds back. In the women's elite England were lacking in some of their top names, but Victoria Stevens ran up and finished in a fantastic 4th place behind an all Belgian podium of Aline Hermans, Greet Oeyen and Véronique Bastin.

In other classes England dominated, particularly in the women's races. In W50 England took the top three spots with Janet Rosen taking a 8 minute victory over teammates Kirsty Staunton and Helen Gardner while in W60 it was a top two as Liz Godfree was over 6 minutes clear of Sheila Carey. Comfortable class wins in W14 and W18 went to Lucy Butt and Katrin Harding respectively, while Emily Benham, Liz Britton and Julia Blomquist were closely packed behind Miek Fabre of Belgium who took a 7 minute victory in W20.

Other class victories came in the men's classes came from Tom Louth who won M14 by almost 4 minutes and Quentin Harding with a 3 second win in M40.
