spring cup :: gb junior's star

The first major international event of the year was held in Denmark this weekend with the gb juniors putting on a good show. The 3 race spring cup weekend consisted of the night race on firday evening, a classic race on saturday with the highlight being the relay on sunday. The elite class was not as strong as last year, mainly due to the world champsionships being held in Denmark last year, but it was still a tough race. Jamie Stevenson and Matt Speake were the main men to be flying the flag for gbr both performing well. Jamie took 6th place in the classic race, 2.30mins down on young flyers David Anderson and Matthias Merz who were 2nd and 3rd respectively. Both Jamie and Matt made it on the podium in the final, Jamie part of the 2nd placed Tisvilde team and Matt part of the 3rd placed Tisaren team of which he had an excellent 1st leg run.

For the women, Pippa Whitehouse and Helen Bridle were flying the flag and almost in-seperable time-wise in the classic race. Helen finishing just ahead of Pippa in 23rd. Pippa was just 25secs behind in 24th in a race where Simone Niggli Luder completly dominated winning by 5mins.

It was the gb juniors who were the highlight for gbr with Rebecca Roberts and Anne Edwards leading the way. Rebecca took 3rd in 20E class and followed that up by helping her norwegen club Fredrikstad to 6th in the womens open relay class.

Anne Edwards went one better than Rebecca in the classic in her class taking 2nd place behind Dane Signe Klinting. She then continued her great form by running 1st leg for an all gb girls team and helping them to victory in the 18's class. The team included Holllie Orr whi had a storming 2nd leg run and Emily Renham on the anchor leg.
