Compass Sport Cup - SYO & FVO retain titles

The Compass Sport Cup is a British inter-club orienteering competition, with clubs are categorised by size into the Cup (large clubs) and Trophy (small clubs). The competition consists of initial regional qualifying rounds in Spring with a Final held in the autumn. All but one of the qualifying clubs travelled to the final, which took place at Burbage Moor, with heather and bracken presenting a physical challenge for all those competing.

Event hosts, and Compass Sport Cup holders, South Yorkshire Orienteers convincingly held onto their title with a 73 point win over Bristol Orienteering Klub with OD taking third spot a further 10 points down. The win means SYO take the title for the third year running, equalling OD's previous run of three victories. Forth Valley went one better however in the Trophy, taking the title for the fourth year running.

Bristol certainly provided a strong challenge in the Cup, Matt and Grace Crane taking convincing wins on the men's and women's courses, while the Junior courses were closely contested between SYO, BOK & OD. It was SYO's strength in depth across the ages and sexes however that saw them thrumph, particularly with many of their (and a few of other clubs) top runners competing at the British Fell Relay championships in Scotland.

In the Trophy, FVO emerged victorious from a close fight with EPOC, while fellow Scots Interlopers were also rewarded for their travel south by picking up third spot.
