Carlisle - The NEWEST city race

Urbanflyer_large

Historic Carlisle, with its Castle and Cathedral, has a European-prize-winning pedestrianised city centre, with new and old Lonnings to take you off the roads, spacious riverside parkland (to accommodate the smaller floods!!!) and for non-orienteers modern shopping facilities. And plenty of accommodation and a surfeit of cafes less than five minutes away for your pre or post-race refreshment.

Strategically placed approximately half way between Land’s End and John O’Groats on the completed London - Glasgow M6 Motorway, Carlisle is well served by trains – one of the few remaining stops between Glasgow and London - and from Newcastle and National Express Coaches.

With Map surveyed and drawn by Paul Johnson (with advice from son Ollie) and Start and Finish in the heart of the City, less than ten minutes from train and bus stations, this promises to be the race not to miss. Pair it up with the Tim Watkins Blodslitet Long Distance Races "Down the Motorway" to Farleton Fell near Carnforth on the Sunday for a splendid week-end of contrasts. City pavements Saturday - Limestone pavements Sunday.

Three years years in the planning, waiting for the new Flood Barriers to be built before they could be mapped, finding the ideal Registration Venue in the Tourist Office right in the centre of the action, yards (metres?) from the Start and Finish and with interesting Control Sites (The Cursing Stone is one - will we regret the choice??) to add to the skilfully-crafted courses planned by Paul, can you afford to miss it??
