The GB Junior Team have arrived at their event centre and accommodation for the rest of their stay in Switzerland. After arriving in Switzerland on Thursday, for a few days of acclimatisation and preparation.

Today is an unofficial Sprint race within the old town of Bellinzona. Scott Fraser and debutante Jess Halliday represent junior GB, with Oli Johnson, Jenny Whitehead and Sarah Rollins representing senior GB, in the races which will be televised live in Switzerland. Dave Rollins missed out on the final after failing to qualify in a middle distance race used qualification. See Post Finance Sprint for results, hopefully we’ll see Scott and Jess taking some senior scalps!

Tuesday is the first day of main competition for medals with the middle qualification race. You can follow the progress of the team on the event website at JWOC 2005 homepage or www.britishorienteering.org.uk

The whole event promises to be well run - the organisers have even built a temporary bridge over a main road for the middle final!. Its hoped that the 50+ travelling GB spectators who are combining the championships with the SWISS 6 days will help provide a superb atmosphere for the runners.

The Junior team in return will have a 'meet the team' picnic on the rest day during the week to thank the supporters and provide a welcome break from the competitions. "I am confident the team will really enjoy this tough Swiss terrain. JWOC is a great platform for preparing athletes to become great seniors and what they learn during this week, in terms of success, failure and fun! will help strengthen their long-term development" says Jason.
